Speech-Language Therapy
Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) are accredited by the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA). SLPs specializing in pediatrics work with children to develop and enhance communication skills.
Treatment varies depending on the age, and nature of the child’s communication issues but may include increasing expressive language skills including gestures, sign language, augmentative communication systems, spoken language; receptive language skills such as following directions; speech skills such as articulation; pragmatic language skills including social skills; and oral motor skills related to both speaking and eating.
In addition, speech-language therapy may focus on play, attention and problem solving skills to lay a strong foundation for communication development.
